This week I want to give you a little help, so I decided that for the next four weeks I will be giving you ideas about holiday presents: this week will be dedicated to women, then we will have men, kids and home. I would like to give you some ideas that are not too expensive and could be a present for a friend or a `side` present for a bigger gift.

As you already know, I am getting ready for a trip with my family and this trip includes a flight. It is not my kids` first flight, but the last time we took the boys on an airplane it was over a year and a half ago. We are hoping that now they will be `easier` and we could save our sanity by letting them watch a movie, but I am not completely sure, so I prepared myself with some smart tricks (I hope…).
Good morning my friends and happy Friday! In the last week the days have been getting shorter and chillier, we started turning our heating on and we turned on our fireplace too, all this made me think about cozy, comfortable clothes and warm blankets for my home! It is the time to drink hot cocoa sitting in front of the tv or while listening to Christmas music, to bake apple pies and cookies and in Italy, it is time to cook and eat chestnuts! I love chestnuts, especially because thinking about them brings me back to when I was a kid and used to go into the woods to collect them. The schools in Italy always used to organize field trips to the woods and I remember getting bags and bags of chestnuts, which we would roast on the stove or on the fireplace if we went to my grandparents` house.

Another week is starting, the cold weather is getting here, and I am very excited to let you know that soon I will be leaving for a family vacation: we will go to a warm place and I can`t wait to be laying on the beach in the sun, listening to the sound of the ocean… (well, this could be just a dream because with three kids it is pretty impossible to be able to lay in the sun and do nothing, but let me just pretend that this is going to happen, ok?).

I don`t know about you, but I already started thinking about Christmas presents and I already made a list, this year I can`t wait for the time to come to put up our Christmas decorations and tree, my parents will be here on December 15th, so we will celebrate, eat a lot and have fun all together.

Today I would like to cheer up this grey rainy Monday with the recipe of an apple crostata. I actually have to thank my father in law (Cesare) for the idea of this pie because he made it one day when he was visiting us and I thought it was really good. Over the last few years Cesare specialized in crostate: when he comes here he always cooks them for us and one day he decided to make an apple variation on the recipe (because we went apple picking and did not know what to do with all the fruit!), but he did not have jam, so he put just apples. The result was really good, so I tried to make it my own with some changes (which is what I usually do with recipes!).

And here we are, it is Friday again… It looks like the weather is getting colder and the days shorter, on Sunday we will move the time back of one hour, so it will start getting dark at 5-5.30 pm? I don`t know you, but I hate it and I don`t really love the cold weather. The only thing that makes me accept the upcoming freezing days is the thought that Christmas is getting closer, I have been thinking about Christmas since September!
